THEVICBOX

A voyeuristic view of identity.

For the first time, the queer brand Kurt Prynne, based in Berlin, ventures into Latin America with a campaign exploring the relationship between the male body and identity through the lens of five men in Santiago, Chile. This collaboration was led by Venezuelan documentary photographer and audiovisual collage artist, Víctor Vivas, better known as THEVICBOX.

KURT PRYNNE X THEVICBOX “A Voyeuristic View of Identity” aimed to capture the essence of four cisgender men and one transgender man whose work is deeply connected to the body. Actors, strippers, waiters, bartenders, doctors, burlesque performers, dancers, and influencers were all invited to embrace their authenticity in a series of images and videos designed to showcase the diversity of their identities while wearing Kurt Prynne pieces. The set, a black box, became an intimate and safe space where each participant was able to shed the awareness of being watched. THEVICBOX's direction was key to creating this atmosphere, guiding the participants so that their movements became increasingly authentic, to the point where they forgot about the cameras around them. It was in this moment of forgetfulness that the truest essence of each person emerged, creating an environment where both the Kurt Prynne garments and the men wearing them were the absolute protagonists.

In the artist's words: "My work focuses on capturing intimacy, those flashes of honesty. From a tender gaze to those sensual moments every man wants to see reflected in himself." Each photograph and video captures the instant when authenticity becomes tangible, and the body is freed to show itself in its complete vulnerability. Throughout these "sessions," the clothing element evolved as a tool of expression. At first, the brand's garments were an external object, but as the process progressed, they became an extension of each participant’s body, a part of their momentary identity and a channel for expressing what they wanted to communicate to the camera. The t-shirts and jockstraps were so seamlessly integrated into the participants' movements that they no longer felt like mere clothing; they became a second skin, a conduit that flowed with the narrative of each man. Each participant played with the garments in their own unique way, revealing different facets of their personality and allowing the artist to capture shots as diverse as the participants themselves, with movement being the main resource. This editorial reflects Kurt Prynne's motto, "Wear your uncomfortable truth," as each participant confronted their own truth in a space where they were not only observed by the photographer but also by the numerous cameras set up on the set. The intimacy of these moments, though uncomfortable, transformed into an act of freedom and authenticity under THEVICBOX's voyeuristic documentary gaze.

This collaboration also celebrates the 5th anniversary of the Kurt Prynne brand.
